Jason Cruz is an Associate Attorney at The Harris Law Firm’s Denver office. An experienced trial lawyer and passionate advocate, Jason handles a range of cases involving divorce, child custody, domestic violence, and other family law matters.
A Texas native who has always been driven by a desire to help and serve others, Jason attended the University of Houston to obtain a degree in Hospitality. However, after a few years of working in restaurants and planning events, he wanted to impact people’s lives in ways beyond serving fancy foods and found that law school would allow him to start a career where he could provide meaningful support to people facing their toughest and darkest days. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, where he also served as a board member for the public interest law student group, a member of the Hispanic student group, member in OUTLaw, and helped plan a public interest conference.
Over the course of his legal career, Jason has focused exclusively on criminal and family law. Prior to joining our firm, he was an accomplished defense attorney with extensive experience in high-stakes litigation. This includes litigating criminal cases against the Attorney General’s office, cases involving murder charges, the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA), and other serious felonies. Additionally, during his time as a Public Defender, Jason secured numerous not-guilty verdicts at trial.
As an Attorney at The Harris Law Firm, Jason has cultivated a reputation for providing meaningful, realistic, and solution-oriented counsel. He prioritizes personal attention from initial meetings he sets immediately with new clients through the life of their cases and takes the time to listen and uncover their goals and expectations. He also leverages his experience to help clients identify key issues in their cases and the strengths and weaknesses of their positions and provides the insight-driven counsel they need to make informed decisions about their futures.
Beyond his legal acumen, Jason is known for his passionate advocacy and personability. As an outgoing person with hospitality training, he is adept in establishing candor and close-working relationships that put clients at ease, allow them to openly voice their concerns and questions, and become active participants in their cases. His people skills are also invaluable when dealing with difficult judges, opposing counsel, or when hearings or negotiations go off track. In all matters he handles, he strives to make the legal system understandable to non-lawyers and to always stand up for his clients’ rights and interests.
Outside of the courtroom, Jason is a sports enthusiast who grew up playing all kinds of sports. He even hosted a sports talk show for his school’s radio station during his time at the University of Houston. When he is not advocating for clients, you can find him enjoying his free time volunteering, snowboarding, or engaging in some new random sports hobby – the latest of which is boxing.
