Aretha Frazier is an Attorney and Counselor at Law at The Harris Law Firm, where she leverages experience and insight to guide clients through a range of matters involving divorce, child custody, and family law matters.
A proud Detroiter who has always been drawn to professions that enable people to serve their communities proactively rather than reactively, Aretha developed an interest in the legal field during her undergraduate studies in psychology at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. As an adoptee from a difficult family background, she was immediately drawn to the practice of family law and believed that a legal education would complement her personal experiences and allow her to best serve children and families like her own.
While her interest in law was borne during her undergraduate years, Aretha continued to focus on her psychology studies, learning about the tools and strategies that help people, particularly ethnic minorities, and those from other disadvantaged groups, overcome mental and emotional challenges and gaining insight that would later prove invaluable in her legal career.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology, she joined the Peace Corps and served as an Education Volunteer in Zambia for over two years. When she returned to the U.S., she moved to Denver and served as a Literacy Tutor with AmeriCorps at a Title I school in Thornton before enrolling in law school at the University of Colorado, where she earned her law degree.
As an Attorney at The Harris Law Firm, Aretha draws from her legal education, background in psychology, and personal experiences to effectively counsel clients facing what are often tumultuous and consequential legal matters. As an advocate who understands the importance of building attorney-client relationships on trust, she makes it a point to show up as her most authentic self while remaining professional to address the facts of her clients’ cases with precision and care. She also commits herself to working with the utmost integrity and in ways that position all parties, especially those most vulnerable, for the best possible outcome.
Aretha’s ability to balance the professional and personal nuances of family law cases, her keen legal insight, her commitment to ongoing communication, and her unwavering client-focused approach have earned her the trust of clients and colleagues alike and well-deserved professional recognition. In 2021, she was named to the National Black Lawyers Association's Top 40 under 40 list. She is licensed to practice in Colorado and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
When she is not advocating for her clients, Aretha enjoys cooking, roller skating, true crime, loose leaf tea, and fitness, and she can often be found reading and learning about all manner of new and random things. Children are her favorite people, and she is always looking for volunteer activities that allow her to serve and interact with kids.
